So since Billy Talent are pretty much my favourite Band of all the bands I'm gonna attempt a little review here, just be warned that I'm obviously a bit biased. Billy Talent's best album was Dead Silence, in my opinion that one brought all their influences (alternative rock, punk, post-hardcore and hard rock) together perfectly and had a lot of variation in the tracks. There were some more radio-friendly alt rock songs on there (i.e. Stand Up And Run, Show Me The Way), some very emotional ones (Swallowed Up By The Ocean, Cure For The Enemy) and also many aggressive and fast ones (Surprise Surprise, Man Alive, Viking Death March). Lyrically that album was also their best, covering socio-political issues and many other topics. This new album is definitely different than Dead Silence, but I still like it a lot. After the very radio friendly alt-rocky singles (which I still liked) I was a tiny bit worried about them going too much for that route. Luckily, I was wrong. Here's a little track-by-track review: 1. Big Red Gun My third favourite song of this album. It sounds like it could have been on BTII, sounds very up-beat and features a catchy chorus. 2. Afraid Of Heights Sounds like one of the more radio-friendly Dead Silence songs, I really like the lyrics on this one 3. The Crutch My favourite song of this album, sounds a bit funky and features a BTIII-style guitar solo by god himself Ian D'Sa 4. Louder Than The DJ Another upbeat catchy song about rock'n'roll music 5. Ghost Ship Of Cannibal Rats My second favourite, reminds me of BTII and is also very catchy, I love Ian's backing vocals on this one 6. Rabbit Down The Hole Interesting and emotional song with an acoustic guitar intro, reminiscent of Swallowed Up By The Ocean and Chasing The Sun 7. Time-Bomb Ticking Away The fastest song of this album, reminds me of the first self-titled album (Songs like The Ex or Lies in particular) 8. Leave Them All Behind Kinda 21st Century Breakdown era Green Day -ish, actually my least favourite but still catchy 9. Horses & Chariots Has a kinda Hard Rock feel to it, love the guitar parts 10. This Is Our War Shares the spot of favourite song with The Crutch track, reminiscent of the more aggressive Dead Silence tracks 11. February Winds Another emotional one, probably the most alternative rock sounding track on this album 12. Afraid Of Heights (Reprise) This one is just weird, instead of being an instrumental reprise of musical themes of the title track this is actually an electronica-style remix of it. I still like it but it's definitely a bit unusual for BT. All in all I enjoyed the album a great deal, it's not as good as the last one but still a very diverse album. They got a little bit more radio-friendly and also incorporated hints of electronic sounds on some tracks but I would definitely give it a listen if I were you. Also, the album art is amazing (as you can see)

Billy Talent, Linkin Park, 30StM, Gentleman and a few more were part of "Wave 2" of music I liked while Zebrahead, Yellowcard, Anti-Flag, SOAD, Rise Against, RHCP, RATM, Audioslave, Pendulum, The Prodigy, Alexisonfire and Cancer Bats started "Wave 3". After that my musical scope exploded and now I like too much music
