Hello everyone, I'm new to the understanding of different audio formats and the difference in sound quality each are able to produce. I'm currently updating my old music library I had from high school and a lot of of the files were from 128-192-250 kbps range. I then eventually learned about 320kbps being the best and max quality you could get for a standard Mp3 and from a cd or digital download that may or may not have been compressed? So then I'm starting to go into even new territory, about compression, and lossless FLAC files, and being able to convert them to have a superior kbps and Hz output than a normal 320kbps file (If I'm understanding that correctly). I'm using the free audio editor and converter called 'Audacity' and while I assumed I was maybe using it correctly, I have a feeling I don't fully understand it and that I'm not actually using it to it's potential and getting the max possible quality from my converted FLAC files. I'm given the option to convert FLAC to Mp3, but it says the highest kbps I can set it to is 320, Is a converted flac to mp3 320 file end up being the same if I just downloaded a 320 version? Or is it still even better? Because my first thought was "ok if 320 is the max for mp3, but i'm able to convert it to a wav file with 1411kbps then that must be a higher sound quality", I am now thinking that is not correct at all. I'm not sure how to check out the Hz levels the converted tracks are able to produce yet, but with attempting different conversions while at the same time just to see what different outcomes I get, I have seen kbps be usually 1411, but i have also seen files reach over 2000, 3000kbps+. (Basically my first notion was "get higher kbps=better sound quality") Then I learned there are Hz. To sum it up, I've tried to look up youtube videos on how to set up my audacity settings to get the maximum sound quality possible for bangers and my go-to favorite artists and to understand how to properly convert flacs to their highest potential, but I was unable to find a good source and I thought there may be many digital audio enthusiasts here that can throw me some insight onto this, with any pointers or videos they know that were useful for them or are knowledgeable in general. Here are snapshots of all the different settings on audacity and it's kind of overwhelming having so many and yet not knowing what each one does or will produce in the end. For convenience sake yes, but I'm kind of a stickler and OCD doesn't help, so if I found out I am able to get even a higher quality audio file that has lossless information compared to a normal 320 mp3 then I'm going to try and understand the process instead of settling for less. And most cases to save time while I do this updating yes I will use 320 files, It's only with my really favorite bands do I want to get the highest quality obtainable. And some bands I'm keeping the less than 320 files cuz I care less about the quality with them of course, it all depends how much I like or listen to the band I guess lol.

@dorathekiller97 Thanks for the info! I downloaded it and I do like the look of it so far, have been messing around with it tonight. And thank you @mR12 for that page, I have bookmarked it for looking back at as a reference. So I've been messing around with different conversions and checking out their spectograms on Spectro and audacity, and I'm getting a few different variables. I'm probably doing my head in on minuscule differences, but just trying to figure out the prime areas to look out for and what levels should be reaching certain peaks. Which one would be deemed as the better file in your opinions? I'm thinking #2. It is only reaching 22.1KHz which is around what the average person can hear correct? But It's higher at 24Bits and 2,117kbps. #1 is peaking past 22.1KHz at 24KHz, but it's less than #2 at 16Bits and 1,538kbps. And #3 I assume is overkill, being 96,000Hz, yes it's passing 24KHz and 4,608 kbps but the size of the file doesn't make it practical probably. Basically what I'm understanding now is that, if it's not being cut off and is passing the 20KHz line, and it's reaching 24Bits and between 1411-4000kbps (or anything obviously over 320), then you have a more superior quality file over an mp3 320kbps?
