Trophy Eyes - The American Dream (2018)
humbleledger replied to fie claussell's topic in Alternative Rock
yeah, I usually only seek out videos of albums I know inside and out. this way the music is untouchable. a good example of this is dwellings. I finally got around to watching some live performances and was absolutely surprised by what the lead singer looks like. not in a negative way, I just would never have put that voice to that man. but when I listen to the album, I still imagine the scrawny , clean shaven, long haired individual my mind had conjured up throughout my time with the album. in this case (trophy eyes) it was entirely due to that video being my first time experiencing the band, now it's all I can see while listening. -

because it's intentionally distracting. you don't dress like that unless you WANT people to get 'hung up' on it, good or bad. now every song all I see is his poofy black crop top and washboard abs... spinning around like a ballerina. it takes the attention away from the music. some people might like him even more, for such a fearless excersize in self expression. and im not bashing anyone who does. but for others, myself included, it's just silly looking... and takes attention away from the music. and before i get some tired 'repressed gay/ simply homophobic' accusations thrown my way (like i did on a review site) let me get this out of the way, my 'gay' is anything but repressed. I do the same with metal bands that dress up like 2002 goth kids and every second of the video is them doing 'metal hands'. are you making videos to accentuate the music?... or do you just want everyone to know how dark, fashionable, or in this case... foreword thinking you are? -

youtubed the acoustic song and coincidently learned a lot about the band and album through unrelated videos! turns out they named the band after a 'regular show' episode also crown shyness is when certain types of trees avoid touching other tree's branches, that's what the album art is! also explains a lot of the lyrics in the acoustic title track. either ive smoked way too much or this is a very interesting accidental discovery, I won't know until morning

such a shitty scenario, you can't believe every accusation but you can't deny every accusation. like jonny craig, I know he's a shitty person, but is he capable of rape? I wouldn't think so... but goddamn what if its true and I'm over here like 'new slaves album is best ever take all my expendable income' -
I hear you, man. I don't even buy cds anymore, i just buy digitally *if* the band doesn't have any good merch. if they do have solid merch I buy 3 or 4 shirts and jyst keep the rip. it washes out I think. as far as my money not stretching as far as my library, I only support the bands I come back to. if I listen once and don't like it, I delete and move on. if something about it brings me back and I decide at the end of my second listen that I want to listen again that's when I give my support. and it's not always immediate, I have a list of bands that I need to get to... currently 3 on that list not scratched out, 'wolf and bear' 'animal jam' then 'trash boat'... in that order

I honestly haven't listened to them since impulse, but im getting into that kind of music again, but everything I listen to in that style feels shallow to me. I haven't listened to anything from this new album, but im excited for it from what I hear others saying. keeping my expectations low, but I'll definitely check it out when it leaks
