Album's not bad at all, actually has some very fun heavy belters in it, which I probably enjoyed the most (Modern Slave, Kings Of Ignorance), but what the fuck was that title track? The feature vocalist is mediocre, the song itself is insanely dull and then it's somehow the shortest on the album and still ends with a shitty fadeout... wtf were they thinking.

You know, I know this shit is objectively great and they're crazy talented, but I just don't like it as a whole. The vocalist is still colorless and I find him boring, the drums are fucking top tier, the guitars are really fucking cool and I was actually really into most of the first half but then it sort of became mess-y techwank (with again, boring vocals) and only the last minute was sort of great again.
Didn't like first single much either for similar reasons but this is definitely more interesting.

Once again, Telle's delivery is very enjoyable, but it's way too chorus driven and yeah it's a pretty great alternative rock/post-hardcore song but that's not the early-mid career TWA I fell in love with. The bridge is actually so fucking nice wish it lasted longer.

Really like these two new songs, wish the vocals were louder on the heavy one.

I like this song a lot, expected it to be way poppy but it's veeeeeeery moody, atmospheric and minimalistic. Bridge is sublime.

album art managed to use not one but two of the more obnoxious trends overused lately in the genre. The cold and boneless computer graphics as artwork, and the "physical" feel overlay, congrats. Who even thinks some shitty CG render of a bathroom is a good artwork?

It's not even bad, reminds me of Exotype in a sense.

lmao this was my first upload on a new PC so I think I could've fucked it up. I'll reupload it.

Hmm, I am quite underwhelmed by this, the initial single (that wasn't on the album) was such a wild experimental piece, then the singles were fairly standard, and the album is much worse than Underside of Power imo, but it still has some brilliant moments such as Nothing Bloomed so there's that.
Safe to say this went from a potential AOTM to something I will rarely get back to.
EDIT: I just realized Void is a 7" single and Nothing Bloomed is the closer, makes so much sense...

Well Slipknot and BMTH were gonna be in the lead from the start but at least I could call Slipknot's album great while Amo has to be BMTH's lowest point, even the recent mixtape is better if you trim some of its fat.
Sleeptalk making it in the final vote still blows my mind and Alien is my personal metalcore AOTY but oh well.
So many people whining about WANYK/Amo being in the lead but it doesn't take a genius to realize why that is:
Spoiler
The only way you could remove popularity bias is by having people rate each album on a certain scale and then have some sort of miniscule factor of popularity also come in play so that an album that has a 9.0/10 rating by 5 people doesn't win over an 8.5/10 rated album by 500 people. Other sites have done it, it works, usually.
Also you should only let people rate the album they vote as AOTY so they couldn't "rate bomb" others with 0-1s as history tells this has been done by many juvenile fandoms of various mediums (such as superhero movies, kpop, other bullshit).
EDIT: I have just realized that my system is fucking stupid because then everyone will just rate their pick 10/10 and it'll be the same thing all over again lmao. I guess you could try some sort of ranking system so everyone has to at least check out the top 4-10 finalists and rank them in order..? So even if someone comes to vote for Slipknot they could at least TRY to give the other albums a chance and maybe if enough people thought the overwhelming number 2-3 pick was great but wasn't certain groups' first choice it should still be worthy of AOTY as a whole?
It's really not that hard to sit through 4 albums in a week, especially when they're considered THE BEST ALBUMS THE YEAR HAD TO OFFER...

Thy Catafalque - Naiv (2020)

Enjoyed the fusion of sounds, the mix of the modern and the old so much in this. Can easily see it being in my top 3 this month. First playthrough really lived up to the genre tag and kept me guessing what's gonna come next, crazy how all the sounds were wrapped in such a well developed package.
