Is it bad I enjoy this and 4 Second Ago more than Periphery?
-
Not the biggest fan of the vocals but I dig the throwback sound

On one hand, the fact they've had a cohesive lineup and seemingly enjoy each other's company is great. Obviously ignoring the music component, I would want them to be happy doing what they do.
On the other, the changeups with members kind of forced the band to evolve. Now it seems just like steady coasting, for better or worse.
Not a novel opinion, I know, but it does feel kind of dirty to think "yeah I wish the vocalist would quit the band so they can add more spice"

Was expecting more generic lofi. This is nice.
Huh they also made another LP recently, it's a little more generic but I like the vocals on it.

I kind of glossed over this since my first impression was that the vocals felt too amateurish, but I'm glad the art work made me check it out again.
There's something really unique and interesting here, I'm definitely down to hear more.

Donovan is that you?

It's just so...empty. And it feels agonizing slow coming from the blast beats of Erase Me.
I don't think it needs a synth throughline like the last IA did, but something else to not make it feel like breakdown of a breakdown.
Like someone else said, hopefully it sounds better in the context of the album, because as a single it does nothing for me.

Nice tracks! Hope they release a LP anytime soon.
Holy crap I haven't thought about The Bear Season in years. It took me a couple seconds to remember their name after seeing your avatar. Definitely an underappreciated band-

Civil Wars is soooo good. Devin screaming again is always a good thing, but that piano is what sells it. And all the new tracks are pretty solid, but I think this still suffers the problem of their last 3 albums: no real cohesion.
I appreciate the variety and as whole, I think it's a step back in the right direction after Eve.... But knowing how they do their recording progress now, it's hard to look past what it is: 2 ep's stuck together with some new tracks sprinkled in. Doesn't help I'm not a fan of the guitar tones of the Now What EP.
I'm still glad they're making music and by no means am I expecting a return to sound. But when they make something like "The Road Beneath My Feet" and The Question inspiration is so strong that I can't help but wonder if they will.-

The first 2 EPs + 5 new songs and a different track order, so kind of.

Man the vocalist has been busy. Valiant's LP last year, Galleons earlier this year.

Lol yeah I found about them recently and Here I Stand took me instantly back...the rest of the LP did nothing for me.
What are the songs you like from them? I didn't have the patience to sit through all the LP's

Great rec. I sadly only take time to listen to one or two post-rocks albums a year, but I'm glad this is one of them.
-
Hmmm I wonder if they grew up listening to Emery and Hawthorne Heights....
Good shit though-

Still unsure what people see in this band beside a few good songs such as Like A Shadow and Saint Cecilia
The ambient/post-rocky influence was what made them click for me. And they kind of give me Architect vibes at points.

QuoteWe're always one step behind him, he's Brian Eno
Brian EnoHonestly though, last two singles have been kind of safe. I'm fine with them going down the dark pop route, just need a bit more spice imo.

Yeah as much I enjoyed a few singles on WA I could not get into like everyone else did. This sounds like a good step provided the album keeps the variety strong like Old Souls.

Ehhh even with no expectations I walked away just uninterested. There's some really interesting bits and pieces here and there, but it's all overshadowed by such a generic sound.
And maybe I'm a minority, but I can't stand the nasally high pitch singing Shane does now. He usually hits his higher notes in that style, but it's 'on' all the time for this LP and was the reason I didn't like the 2nd half of Dead Reflection.
Which is weird, since I enjoy that style of singing, PtV being a favorite of mine...but going from the "Bad Habits" mv to "My Heroine" creates so much whiplash.

Yeah this is totally Breach's level of non-stop 'atmospheric synths'....but unlike that album which took forever for me to appreciate, I'm really digging this. With the heavy reverb on top of it, it hits that niche "chill heavy" vibe that I feel like few albums try to achieve.
It's lacking a lot of punch as a result and perhaps it didn't to be so long, but I think it's a nice direction to take. -
Can def do more Shokran-like bands. Egyptcore is the future

Hoo boy, I'll have to wait and see if this will be AOTY, but there are so many 10/10 moments on this LP

I'm starting to wonder how this band would be if Andrew Wells became a full time member, especially the vocals
