You know, I think is what's most telling is that most people (especially here) don't actually mind them going in this direction towards a poppier, radio-friendly sound. But this is so far off the mark, there's no real way to justify it.
I just want to know how WB thought "yes, this is the LP to launch them on our record. What a great contact"

Augh gotta wait until the 320. Hyped.

Lol I was confused when the next song autoplayed and was still called Entheos. Weirder still that both are female fronted bands.
-
I'm not sure how listening to several of these songs back to back will hold up with repetition, but it's some good shit if not individually.

The kings return. If anyone hasn't checked out Hammock, definitely start with Oblivion Hymns. Perhaps one my favorite ambient albums ever and perhaps the closest sounding to this 2017 Mysterium LP. All their other albums will initially sound really similar to one another, but with enough listens you'll begin to feel the difference between them easily.

BaaO should be a band I like - I loved the Elijah, I like spoken word, I don't even mind the RnB side of things -- but something about their songs just feel...so lacking. I'm not sure if it's layering, straightforward chords, or something else...but I get bored with their songs so quick.

Kinda worried the album is gonna be really samey since all the 3 songs released so far have the same mellow vibe.
I'm holding out on listening to anything else, but that's exactly what I complained about with the last single...Has a buildup that never gets executed.I don't mind this shift in direction they're going, Reimagined was dope imo, I just don't want the entire alum to be the same.

Google wizards - I'm trying to find all, or any, of A Genuine Freakshow's discography.
Quality doesn't matter as I'm pretty sure only web-rips exists at this point. I also think the lost copyright licenses because their own official site pales in comparison to their archive versioned.
That said, they thankfully compiled their EP and singles (0.008% + I Can Feel His Heartbeats + live/radio versions) into one LP:
But it was a pre-order bonus to their last LP so it's been impossible to find.
Now if you want extra credit, they also have an elusive, debut EP that I'm finding conflicting info on
But other sources say it's just called "EP" and was released in 2006 but their label Peartree Records.
This is probably a tricky undertaking given their small status but it would be awesome if anyone could just help look.
Thanks!

Copypasta aside, I've always derived a lot of guilty pleasure out of BC since their It's not Classy days (Hell is What You Make it still being my favorite). I recall seeing them live around the time this album came out and my god, they put on probably the worst concert I've ever been to. No one could hold a single note without being out of breath and off key, 80 percent of the music was tracked, and the crowd was emotionless because they were too busy trying not to overheat.
I don't mind they went the EDM route, even if it's a bit uninspired, I'm just not used to that genre's constant need to pump single after single out. I'm glad they have compilations since Sleepless EP was pretty enjoyable.

They were able to resurrect my flesh, it's healed. And it's time for me to go home. And they even told me my scales are turning gold as my father's were. My father was a piece of creation itself. He was the protector of god himself. That's the thing, people damn power. It's not evil it's how you choose to use it. But the dictation of true power is lost to this world. I'm returning home but I'm... going to come back. But I'm going to make it that no human is permitted to use power without sanction.
You must give your soul to me. I am the Sovereign of Power and I'm going to become what my father was before my birth: Eternal Guardian Dragon of Time. My father gave up much of his power when I was born. Because his mate was Hecate, mother of angels. I was the only true born.. My brethren. Even Lucifer down in the pit for his fucking retardation, he was my brother. I am not a fallen. I am a lost. I fell to Earth from my own folly- not following that bastard. Honestly look into my eyes. Do I seem mad to you? Most humans denounce anything that is outside their realm of understanding. But that is my dictation. I do not demand your soul as payment. It is moreso protection that if you abuse your power.. then your soul is going to be bound. You keep your soul within your flesh but your soul will be bound never to touch power again. That is the dictation of the blood contract. I give you my blood, you give me... a piece of your soul. You do not lose your soul. I am not the father, I have no rights to your soul. But I do have rights to claim how you use my power. And that is the only reason I bind your soul like that. -
Man what a bizarre, but good, album. At moments I feel like I'm listening to Deafheaven, Eyes Set To Kill, ABR, and then nope, back to MTS. Grinding Teeth really just puts it out there and I love it.
Some parts of definitely a bit questionable - I wasn't a big fan of Power Overwhelming - and probably my only gripe is that it seems like they seemed to rely too much on having the clean vocals for the choruses. I kind of liked how the cleans were sprinkled in instead of becoming the main vocal point, probably because the new vocalist, while good, seems better suited for background vocals / harmonizing imo.
I'm definitely going to need more listens to let this sink in like Old Souls, but because that was such a perfect LP, I'm totally okay with this not trying to be Old Souls 2.0.

For anyone who doesn't want to listen to it to prolong the release any more -- it's sounding good, though the mix and overall direction definitely seems to reflect their last single, Fireworks. They're not just Ether/Fireworks repeats, but they definitely have the same feel of Fireworks with a more progressive, dare say 'lighter' sound?
I know they promised that Fireworks would be the lightest song on the LP to ease fans (and it probably will), just don't expect it to be comparing Ether to something like Blood Moon.I'm still stoked for it and it's been cool seeing a pretty warm reception to their progression.

Is this considered nu-metal?
Actually kind of reminds me of the last The Color Morale album a bit, the latter I actually enjoyed somehow
-
I'm 100% down with this new direction. It's a bit mellow compared to how the reinvented their sound w/ Short Songs + Wind Shifts, but I think it has much more potential than I Am Alive (am I still the only one who found that LP just lifeless?)

30 seconds into the song and my first thought: 'this is already better than any of Cope/Hope'.
Maybe a break is what they needed - I'm liking it, but not loving it quite yet.
-
Hmm, I don't mind the direction of this and Ether but something about the vocal production still feels off.
It sounds like they're reducing it because they're afraid it would overpower the instrumentation but it all just blends too much with the reverb of the guitar imo. I mean, I guess they're going for the Deafheaven feel but I'd like it crisper. But who knows, maybe a higher quality rip will make the difference. That said, I have no qualms with the new female vocalist - curious to see if she'll have any bigger parts.
-
I haven't heard these guys in years. It sounds like they just moved on to the next AA album to copy.
-
I feel like with every new Muse album, I don't find it as horrible as people make it out to be - and get a little enjoyment out of it.
But then I end up completely forgetting about them - totally forgot Drones even came out.-

Augh, the age old dilemma. To wait for 320 or not...
Their last LP took a while to grow on me, especially with tonal shift in the latter half, but I've been digging it.

How does he keep pumping out music so quick? And for it not to suck? Good shit.
-
Yeah that name is awful but I'm such a sucker for this band.
-
Man I do feel like an old man when I heard this type of music.
Like, I have shit taste, I'll readily admit it. Generic pop-punk and radio friendly music is something I listen to occasionally.
But all of these top 40 songs really do sound the same. She's got 87 mil on her most popular video and I wouldn't even know how to tell her apart from any other artist.

Sounds better than anything on the last LP tho
I couldn't bring myself to listen to the whole thing..it was just, so disappointing to listen to.
Honestly, I think since What Are you So Scared Of, they've just been unable to nail a solid sound. I liked parts of The Other Side, but it always felt like the choruses were the weakest elements and it just feels like this is more of the same issue.
It's so hard. I want them to experiment and change their sound and I would never say they were ground breaking in the first place...but it really does just feel more generic.-

Balmorhea - Clear Language (2017)

Auughh these guys need more love. Constellations is a bit harder to get into since it's really ambient/neo-classical, but Stranger is a fantastic and easy to digetst post rock album paired perfectly with a string quartet. Fake Fealty and Divided are my favorite.
Super hyped to see where they go with this.
