Their self-titled was such a let down, but those singles were Congratulations solid -- looking forward to it. Edit: Haven't finished but there's a surprisingly heavy focus on dark synth pop vibes. It's really bizarre since their recent focus on stoner/acid rock made me forget that this is kind of what they started off as. Me & Michael is a good example of this. Good so far though.

Asking Alexandria - Where Did It Go? (Single) (2017)

> now-defunct genre Da fuq u smokin? In just this year we've gotten a new WCAR, Wage War, Northlane, ABR, VoM, OAA, MTS, upcoming Phinehas, Counterparts if you want to throw them in there. You can argue maybe WCAR and Northlane are outside the genre at this point, but come on. It's one thing to say 2000 metalcore may have given way to djent fever, but I wouldn't say it's over just because some big names have turned to a different direction. -
Oh man, totally forgot about these guys after their (personally) disappointing self-titled. I used to play Congratulations and Metanoia non-stop in college (yes I am an elitist who likes it more than Oracular Spectacular).. I'm kind of hesitant to see where they're heading. Edit: Well after listening....it's not bad... definitely some moments where I can see the old MGMT, but overall it felt kind of unremarkable for me. I suppose the dark synthpop genre has been overdone at this point and I don't really see this adding much to it. I mean, yeah the vocals have a rather shortened delay and the bridge is interesting, but I was pretty much done with the song 3 mins in, video included. Also, wtf is the artwork? I hope that's the single artwork and not the LP....

Asking Alexandria - Into the Fire [Single] (2017)
ggl3dde replied to Lord Kingdom's topic in Singles
Are you sure you aren't talking about Oli and That's the Spirit? Yuk yuk (I actually enjoyed bits of it, still like Sempiternal more) But yeah, I definitely feel mixed. The idea of Dennis joining sounded amazing, execution wasn't at all what I had hoped. Danny returning sounds great, but From Death to Destiny was 'okay' at best for me. I dunno, maybe the issue isn't so much in the drama of the vocalists and more in everyone else. I don't hate it, I do like the production, not sure if I can say I'm excited for it.
