Thing is, I'm not dwelling in the past hoping they'll return to their roots. I didn't like them until Sempiturnal and it was then when I started going backwards and enjoying their previous works. It's just, taken on it's own, the band name irrelevant, nothing about this song is enjoyable to me. It feels bland and overdone. Now put the band's name back on and of course people are going to be upset, because they know this band can actually produce better music. It's BMTH's choice, sure, and I respect them for following their vision - but doesn't mean I'm going to sing praises for it.

Lol I did the exact same thing. If anyone hasn't listened to Time, The Valuator's new LP, the latter half of it gives me some early HLH vibes (at least the vocalist does). Check out "Elusive Reasons". To be honest, I pretty much checked out of HLH after the 2nd LP - first one was good but over produced, second was meh, and then I had no reason to listen to them again. A real bummer, because I first heard them with their early demos and been to 3 of their shows now. Awesome dudes, just not at all the music I can enjoy.

In all seriousness, I've had such a love/hate relationship with this band. Their debut LP was solid yet their sophomore album did nothing for me, but that's the one everyone loves and got them super famous. So I jumped off the train, but then they put out the acoustic-esque EP and I was like, huh, okay maybe these guys can do it. Cue the meh fest that Feel was, I forgot all about them. Madness came out and I finally gave it a spin and was like huh, maybe they can make a pop transition well. And then fucking Gossip. Maybe the secret is to listen to every other album they put out.

The last LP still doesn't sit with me. People rave about Dead Plains and it's my least favorite on the album. I tried liking it and do at parts, but still walked away dissapointed. This is... different. I do like how they're still not resting on one sound and growing stale, it'll be interested if this is indicative of the rest of the album or just a one off.
