I'd say more Hands Like Houses "Ground Dweller" than Jonny Craig though.

I personally agree with the Jonny Craig comparison but the instrumentals sound much more like Slaves than like his solo material

I never listened to Slaves second record after the first two singles because the mixing of the first record, as well as Hearts & Hands when Lyman was in that band, was done so poorly. The new single sounds better and more like what they should have put out after Through Art..., but the leads are still too muddy to me to get the instrumental comparison. Honeybear/@aqualex has a much cleaner sound, and I think some of the structures/leads/rhythms could fit in the middle of Unimagine or Ground Dweller. "Lost Ghost" could be "Developments" cousin, or a sister piece to Lion Skin.

I think the best thing about Honeybear is that I want to hear more already, whereas I'll listen to Slaves new record when it comes out, but I'm not pining for it.

Slaves album will be one big single, just like their previous albums. Most monotonous band out there.

I tried incorporating some different styles on the record! Some smokey piano stuff and some brighter/some darker stuff. I'm a firm believer not everything has to be one way and one sound a whole record through.   Glad to hear you liked it!
