The Afterimage - Lumiere

 

They're more in the vein of Progressive metalcore, but I'm counting on it. I've been following these guys since their first EP 'Formless' and have be ensnared buy their melodic side and chaotic side. The transformation they've gone through is crazy, going from all screams, heavy chaotic music, and breakdowns everywhere to all cleans (like in "Distance", the only song written after their shift to all clean singing) and being very melody-heavy. They have a very wide variety in only 13 unique songs, since many were rerecorded, and many have been my favorite songs since they dropped. Fav songs: Pathogen, Distance, Reverie, Onyx, and Follow.

For me, it's all about August Burns Red - Leveler. I'll always love FIFAP, and consider it the height of their progression.

 

But damn, when I first heard that monstrous drop in Empire performed live, that was the first time I ever even considered moshing (nothing against it, just not my thing). The complexity of Internal Cannons, catchy-ness of Poor Millionaire... it all gels for me as the album I always end up going back to, and probably always will.

 

And come on, how can you not love the absolute ferocity of the title track? I have to be careful listening to that song lately, it gets me so amped up!

 

Honorable mention to Erra's new album Drift. This album gives me renewed hope that this genre can not only continue to succeed with new talent, but it shows how much bands in the genre can adapt and evolve into something more.

Out of the albums that have come out relatively recently, Either Northlane's Node. I like Marcus' voice, and I think he's a good fit. Or Erra's Drift. I love how they've progressed. Also, Shoutout to August Burns Red's FIFAP. That album helped me remember why Matt Greiner is my favorite drummer. Also, Architects' new album when that drops. I've always loved Architects, I just hope there aren't as many bleghs.

When it comes to metalcore my favorite band would be 36 Crazyfists I guess. A Snow Capped Romance is still one of my favorite albums (and Bloodwork one of my all time favorite songs), but I like their recent work just as much. Always thought they had some kind of insanity channeled into their music (dunno how to put it adequately). It sounds as if their songs come straight out of an asylum - and I definitely like that, very much. Probably it's Brocks vocals ...

 

Also I have to mention Killswitch Engage.

Anything by August Burns Red will always stay on top for me metalcore-wise, I have jammed all of their songs so much on my guitar over the years I could probably substitute JB by now hahah (Their solos are a delight to play and to hear). Also, special mention to Misery Signals, Of Malice And The Magnum Heart will always stay a reference in my heart...Hope they comeback some day
