2016 Album of the Year

328 posts in this topic

UPDATED 12/8

"So we are going to try something new, since there was a lot of negative views on the way our AOTY voting works. In the past years, it seemed to work, but we had a smaller audience then. Now with over 60k members, we have a little bit more of a community, and not everyone is into the same popular bands.

So with this new AOTY voting, ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS COMMENT YOUR FAVORITE RELEASE(S). If you can put them in order, that would make our final counts more accurate, and less work for us at the end of the month. During the first week of January the staff will make a tally of every single album voted for AOTY, and the album with the most votes will win (along with a 2nd and 3rd place).

The Below images are no longer the list you have to choose from"

The time has come to reflect on the year. The highs, the lows, the ups and downs; but most importantly: the Album of the Year.

So, it's up to YOU to choose the winner of the 2016 Album of the Year! After you have voted, let us know your top 10 in the comments!

Thanks to our amazing @@Billy Mays for his awesome work on these images! If you see him around the site, congratulate him on all his hard work!

From that list, it's either Architects or ETID for me. I'm planning on doing a huge end-of-the-year list later this month though, which will be a much harder decision. Voted for Architects.

This ^

Bad Omens would definitely have my vote. I'd probably have to go with The Amity Affliction among these choices.

I said it once and I'll say it twice: IF FUCKING BEARTOOTH IS PICKED AOTY I'M GONNA KILL MYSELF.

Whatever, even though I said I wouldn't vote for ADTR, that albums gets me everytime I hear it. My top 20 list is:

1. A Day To Remember

2. Dance Gavin Dance

3. Blink 182

4. Avenged Sevenfold

5. Gatecreeper (awesome death metal album, best of the year on the genre for sure)

6. Despised Icon

7.Vanna

8. Sianvar

9. The Browning

10. Upon A Burning Body

11. Fleshgod Apocalypse

12. Solution .45

13. Korn

14. Fallujah

15. Mental Cruelty (if you dig down-tempo with slams, that's for you)

16. Darke Complex

17. Toluca (post-black metal from Russia... Huge album)

18. Columbus (Australian punk)

19. Carnifex

20. Protest The Hero

I won't lie I thought radiohead or bon iver were among the top Albums this year, I'm surprised there was no real friends or green day here either.

I'm torn in this list, from the list bastille was solid but I wouldn't call it aoty, panic wasn't bad, I just gave DGD a chance, ADR was good, but I guess for me it's either blink or moose blood

No Periphery? Shit.

Erra then, I guess.

So many good releases from July are missing, when it was probably the best month for progressive music, especially with Forevermore, Invent,Animate, Periphery and Silent Planet, nothing's keeping you from making your own top list tho :)

How tf did HLH beat The 1975 in February?! Also Architects was good, but not even top 10 for me. I knew it'd be dgd's only competition though.

Giving my vote to Erra - Drift. Definitely the only consistent and rewarding out of all of these albums besides maybe The Stage. The new DGD is a fucking yawn.
