Asking Alexandria - Like a House on Fire (2020)

183 posts in this topic

Better than the last album. The self titled felt half hearted IMO.

If you were listening to Asking Alexandria for the sick breakdowns you should broaden your music catalog. Roll with change and listen to this with an open mind. It's actually a good album and it's well written.

Listen to Danny's vocals on this they're insane, his vocal runs and harmonies are outstanding.

Take it for what it is.

Listened again in 320kbps, don't have that much of a different opinion. If you wanna know my opinion, look up my previous post on this thread.

Though here are my favorite songs: All Due Respect, It's Not Me (It's You), Give You Up and Lorazepam.

Well, here is my answer to AA's new album. I have only heard few of the songs enough to not like it, and i am very disappointed.

Prove me wrong, after Danny was with them til "From Death To Destiny" everything went to shit.

Well, Dennis "tried" to save it through with "The Black" Which i didn't like.

Now.. Everything is lost, and some of you have to accept they're new style.

Hope some of you understand what i mean.

Cheers!

If anyone disagree with me, you can't call yourself an AA fan.

Wow, it's actually pretty shocking how terrible these guys have gotten over the years. Ben went from writing some of the most bad ass songs, to this.
Why is Danny still in this band?
Drumming is boring

Have not heard it yet... but what really hurts is that I don’t even want to download it. Man I loved this band to death like 2 albums ago

Hey @RockinXander how about actually having a dialogue with everyone you're downvoting for the last 4 damn pages instead of acting like a cornered child and downvoting/plugging your ears?

I have a feeling this album is going to be just awful based on the music trend the band has been on. They are completely unrecognizable to when they first started and I'm fine with bands changing but I hate when bands sell out and that what I feel AA has done. Like Atreyu their latest album was just awful and if u listen to one of their first couple albums then listen to the latest album without knowing who the band was most people wouldn't be able to guess its the same band! 🤦‍♂️

@Ad0492 I feel the same way ass you!

Halfway through my second listen, I really enjoy this album. As if they went sort of pop rock with catchy stuff, progressing on the self titled's sound which I loved a lot.

The only song on here that I don't enjoy much is the closer, apart from that everything is catchy and enjoyable radio rock goodness.

I went in with little to no expectations of this being good. I liked Anti-Socialist alot with it's catchy chorus. The singles are the best of a 4/10 release. I really wanted to like this but everything after I Don't Need you was extremely mediocre. There was very little different in all the songs as the same tone and structure stuck through until The Violence which has seemingly grown on me since it's release. The last track was different but i found the lyrical content just below par.

I understand they want to have this big arena sound, but having it so... lame and uninspired is not the way to go. If you told me they wrote this album when lockdown started, i would believe you.

Not as bad as what people are saying but not higher than a 6/10.

Strongtly old school vibe in this one, nothing special, but it's also far from crap, anyway, it's still better than self-titled! If you don't like 80's Hard Rock/Glam tacky, this one it's not for you...

Shit, "One Turns To None" is really good!!!

Wanna know why they went soft? Ben Bruce's official statement, provided via Kerrang's interview. Not sure why, but this statement frustrates me for some reason:

“It made me reflect on the more hardcore shows in clubs we would play as a younger band where there would be a line of ambulances waiting outside. The fanbase back then was slightly younger than us, but predominantly of a similar age – young and angry, just like we were. That’s not the sort of band that we want to be [any more].”

Violence, he realised, was a truly devastating force: fuel for self-destructive behaviour, and simply counter-intuitive for musicians attempting to build a future.

“As we’ve grown, we’ve come into these bigger events and cross-generational crowds. We don’t want to be the cause of harm to anyone, or to have fans leaving the shows with busted noses. You don’t want those five-year-olds with their parents thinking of shows as scary and violent – the type of places they don’t want to go back to for a while. You want them thinking it was amazing. That’s how you get more rock fans in the world.”

So, I didn’t bother downloading early because I wasn’t particularly excited after the singles. Pretty much share the sentiment around here. It would be one thing if they wanted to change their style ( which I actually love when bands do it ) but this is just generic and uninspired. I dig Antisocial ( mostly just because I have depression and anxiety and feel antisocial quite often ). That track and House on Fire are really the only songs I see myself going back and playing once in a blue moon.

Such a boring record... The whole thing is like a big déjà-vu.
Not necessarily bad as expected but uninspired.

Five Finger Death Punch's new album was heavier than this.
