I actually really love this album. Way better than their past 2 or so. Massive hooks, and top-notch production. It feels more cohesive than the last record, and doesn't feel as bloated or over-the-top as The Black did.

While SUAS & TR&R are classic metalcore records, I could tell by From Death To Destiny that their heart wasn't in it anymore. The Black felt like they were chasing after a nostalgia high that was already drained, and Self-titled felt like they were getting back on their feet.

This album feels like them finally knowing what they want to be, and following their instincts. It's big, catchy, emotionally grounded, and a ton of fun. I can just imagine the floors of the venues they play getting torn apart. There's just so much energy here compared to their last few records.

I do hear the Halsey comparisons, but I love Halsey, sooooo... yeah, those soft grunge-pop melodies are kinda doing it for me. I also do kind of hear the Imagine Dragons comparisons, in how tight and overproduced the instrumentation is, but unlike Imagine Dragons, I actually can find a discernable emotional core in these songs, and the overproduction adds to the chaos of the emotions.

I guess you can call it dad rock too because of the prominant southern boogie influence in Danny's vocals, and the hard rock riffage, but I really have no problem with that. As long as they don't start copying the faux-patriotic conservative virtue signaling of bands like FFDP, then I really don't care.

Exactly. This isnt "progression or evolution" this is just literally trying every genre, and everyone i try to tell otherwise always has a bullshit defense

This album makes the self titled look like the greatest album of all time. Also i asked Danny in a livestream if their self titled would have the classic AA logo and he said no they made a new one to symbolize the change of style. And on this terrible abomination they went back to the classic logo. That doesnt make ANY fuckin sense.

Weird I just see your negativity, doesn’t really matter on if you like the album or not just never saw you saying you like a particular album

This album's got everyone talking tho

And an actually good AA album wouldn't get people talking? No one will talk about this in a few weeks time because it's generic trite and people will move on to the next bigger thing forgetting this existed.

I unironically enjoyed Denis Stoff's Drag Me Out record more than this joke of an album, not sorry.

IMO Bands should change their style from time to time and evolve, but this is just 15 different version of "Alone in the Room", same style of chorus, background vocals, rhythm.

Just overall BORING.

Here's to Starting Over had me vibing hard 👏🏼👏🏼 pretty solid album tho, cant help but think that all the people saying its garbage are STILL expecting another SUAS quality album...

Actually no one is expecting something like that again.
There are tons of bands out there.
I just expect some good music, and this, for the most part, it isnt

Just one premise, I've liked everything these guys have ever done. Even most of their self titled.
I will start listening to this one with a open heart, but I dont expect much.
I wasnt exactly happy with the singles, but satisfied.. I guess ?
I expected way more, but  most of them are cool and I can actually stand them and replay
(Being the first 3 songs, which I wont review but I basically like them and thats all, except Down to Hell)

''House on Fire'' - VERY good chorus and lyrics, could have done without the semi heavy part though.

''I Don't need you'' - Damn this is kinda good, a very nice ballad tbh, but I cant stop thinking how heavy this song could actually be. In my mind they wrote a super heavy song  and stripped out to acoustic LOL

''All Due Respect'' - Is this ghost written by Denis Stoff ? Really I could easily see this as a song from him, just imagine his voice in the chorus. The audio glitches towards the end are cool but I've already listened to the last Code Orange release . Another song that isnt exactly good but enjoyable at least.  Lyrics are cool though

''Take Some Time'' - I expected something original and got nothing, really boring all the way

''One Turns to None'' - This must be the sequel to ''When the Light comes out''. I could easily see this as a tik-tok anthem and I hope this is as bad as it gets on this record. Holy shit this hurts. (the strings stuff is kinda cool though). Yeah Danny you might be a animal, but I'd rather see you saying that you're the closest thing to god I've ever known

''It's Not Me (It's you)''  - I honestly dont even know what they tried to do here. The only part that I like is the ending with Ben singing.

''Here's to Starting Over'' - This sounds something that could be a bonus track from their self-titled.. But I quite this one because it sounds something logical coming from the band who wrote ''Alone in a Room''.

''What's Gonna Be'' - Another logical sequence to their self-titled, it's fine, has a good hook, but nothing special.

''Give you Up'' -  Oh god.

''In My Blood'' - Why did I expect a breakdown ? :/ Very bland, nothing special once again

''The Violence'' - This is the worst song of the record for me. So fucking cringe to sound like Imagine Dragons with guitars (which might be the worst band in existence). When this was suposed to be out as a single, I expected to hear the song from a teaser Danny did a long time ago..

''Lorezapam'' - I dont know what to say about this song, chorus will sounds cool if you're over 40.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
Heavy doesnt mean good. Music is music and we must appreciate for what it is, and not for what we think It should be.
And this is generally bad, uninspired and has glimpses of what they could have become. I don't expect heavy A.A again or breakdowns everywhere.
I expected the greatness that ''Alone in a Room'' had or the emotion ''Room 128'' had.
I came out most of the time disappointed, and also satisfied.
Tracks I genuinely like are ''House on Fire'', ''Antisocialist'', They Dont Want What We Want''

Just putting this out there. Just because you don't enjoy or like an album doesn't mean it's bad. A lot of people in this community aren't going to enjoy this style of music, that's the nature of it. Asking Alexandria started with a core fanbase and branched off. Anyone who followed them from the beginning probably won't enjoy this at all, which is fine. It's a clear indication that this album isn't meant for you, so why do you expect it to be? A lot of the members here are obviously in different branches of the metal community in some way, which I think it's contributing to this whole thread saying this album is shit when, it's actually not. It's pretty well done, if you actually focus on the music rather than you're anger towards them changing..

I've seen comments saying it's uninspired. Which, I agree to an extent. The overall message of the album, the mention of their pathway, is pretty thought out and well executed throughout this record as a whole though. The formula is typical, which I wish they kind of experimented a bit more with structure rather than the sound.

But in no way is this a bad record. It's a great record. Different sure, but it's not meant to be heavy. It's not trying to be anything other than what it is, which in all honesty, is a pretty fun and enjoyable rock record from start to finish. Like if you favor metal, listen to that or their old stuff. There's so much new metalcore, deathcore coming out constantly, it's not a dying genre by any means. Don't come to an AA record meant for rock, trashing it saying it's shit, because surprisingly IT ISN'T

IT'S GOOD

Not bad, but nothing new/original/fresh. Its Ok for me, but at the same time im disappointed. Didnt like Down to hell and i think The Violence doesnt fit with the rest of the album.

The only songs that I won’t skip on shuffle are House on Fire and They Don’t Want What We Want. Maybe I’ll listen to All Due Respect every once in a while.

That being said the best song on this album would be mediocre on the self titled album.

Partially true.  Nobody will forget this album being a flop in their career.

pretty much on the par of Atreyu when they shifted their sound dramatically on Lead Sails Paper Anchor. Still some good production, I will just have to give it a couple listens to see if it sticks
