What the heck is a "post-metalcore"?

The same thing that "post" includes. Should be self explanitory lol

Fucking hell, this kicks ass.

It's also pretty obvious what differentiates Post-Metalcore from standard Metalcore if you've listened to literally ANY other "Post" genre, I don't understand why a "Post-Metalcore" tag is controversial here.

well it does sound like progressive metalcore and considering how many bands have adapted proggy elements into their sound post-2010 you might just unironically could call these types of bands as post-metalcore, even though it is retarded as a genre definition, and would make more sense as a "#th wave of metalcore" kind of thing :DDDD

let me in.

Uhh adding "Post" to anything is a completely arbitrary designation and does not inherently mean a god damn thing.  So no, adding "post" is not obvious here and to be honest I have no idea what separates this band from the rest of the genre.  It's especially ironic considering genres are usually defined by those who are the most influential and popular at the moment.  In metalcore, Architects is defining (or one of the biggest bands out there right now anyways) the genre and this band is basically Architects.

Anyways, song was decent and they can call themselves whatever they want but stating it as a fact the way you did is the most pretentious crap I have ever seen.

Except it isn't.

Post-Rock for example is about exploring atmospherics and textures in the rock genre instead of riffs and catchy energy.

Now, simply replace rock with metalcore and you have your answer.

There's a reason genre categorizations exist.

Interestingly enough, post-metalcore is what Architects have been calling themselves for years now. They even print it on T-Shirts lol. I think it kinda makes sense considering that most modern metalcore bands sound absolutely nothing like an actual fusion of metal and hardcore that existed in the form of metalcore bands like Converge, Earth Crisis or Shai Hulud. That being said, I doubt "post-metalcore" will catch on as a term and we are stuck with calling bands that are neither really metal nor hardcore bands "metalcore" until a better term comes along
