I just finished my first listen and it was not at all what I expected from Underoath, but that isn't a bad thing. It's a creative album and an enjoyable listen, but I don't think it's fair to compare it to a lot of their discography. They are going in a new direction and the influences of other bands such as BMTH are very present on the album as well as some Sleepwave vibes.

It Has To Start Somewhere: 4/5

Rapture: 4/5
On My Teeth: 4/5
 Wake Me: 4/5
 Bloodlust: 3/5
 Sink With You: 3/5
 Ihateit: 3/5
Hold Your Breath: 4/5
 No Frame: 3/5
In Motion: 4/5
I Gave Up: 4/5

Underoath's sound is noticeably different in this album, but doesn't tarnish the sound we know. It is still there. They stay true to themselves while exploring different areas in rock and metal.  This is my second favorite album by them, right behind "Define the Great Line". While there isn't a perfect song by any means, that doesn't mean anything. All these songs are bangers. The last track is something that's really unique to Underoath; soothing and calm for the first half then that guitar breaks out and damn, it's amazing.  Underoath proved after 8 years, they still have it.

So from first listen and some repeated tracks, this is actually reaaaaaaaally fucking cool for a post-hardcore/alternative rock record. Clearly has some Sleepwave vibes but fuck this whole album is so much richer and is actually worthy of the UO name. There's definitely a lot of unexpected and very cool moments. Some songs still need a bit of taking into and are alright, while others are already making me nut because of the way they're written, even if it's mostly your regular verse-chorus-verse structure, the production is really fucking on point especially for electronics/vocals/drums. I don't mind this and will enjoy/repeat this a lot more than Chasing Safety to be honest.

I love it, even though they eased up a little bit on hardcore, they went in a right direction, this new modern trend that most of the post-hardcore bands like BMTH set up a while ago.

I'm glad this leaked a week earlier as it doesn't get overshadowed by the Thirty Seconds To Mars's 'America' release next week.

Thanks to the influence of BMTH and others, they are definitely becoming more approachable and listenable even to those who despise the hardcore genre, so the audience gets bigger with this album.
8.5/10

Well said, I agree with pretty much everything here. Esepdcially agree that this album is much “richer” than Sleepwave’s... but unfortunately I can see it still getting a lot more hate than Sleepwave did, for obvious reasons.

Wait for it, once this album officially releases people will say it sounds like Bring Me The Horizon.
