They don't sound like Underoath any more. At all. I was so hyped for new material but both songs have been so far from what made them great.

And no, I don't hate it because it's different. I hate it because it's shallow repetitive music that doesn't do anything interesting. These guys used to have so much depth to their sound. All these people trying to tell off old fans that can't get into the new tracks, like fuck me for not wanting some radio rock. This crap is so far beneath them as songwriters.

Hey I have to admit, I know a lot of people have insane nostalgia goggles and think Chasing Safety or Define The Great Line are their best albums but I think that with each they continued to write something fucking spectacular and probably peaked around LITSOS or Disambiguation so even if these songs still stand out in the genre and are still fairly well executed (really enjoy On My Teeth for what it is) they're definitely a huge step back so far in terms of songwriting and what you could've expected after 2010, oh well. :| Even if most of the rest of the songs will be more interesting and not just chorus-verse-chorus sleepwave'd alt.rock'd songs, this album will probably not exceed any of their last four previous records. Inb4 defence force of "lol embrace change and worse songwriting lmao"

Yeah not a fan of this at all, I'm not exactly opposed to "butt rock" but that's just not what underoath is good at and this was just kinda boring to me. If you're gonna take the BMTH route then you need to go all in and this just isn't doing it for me.

I agree with you that this will probably not be on par with their previous stuff with Spencer, at least based on the two singles, but I'm still gonna reserve judgment. From what I've heard Rapture is one of only two songs on the album that are this mainstream (the other being Wake Me), and the first four tracks of the album are the most accessible. Supposedly the rest of the album still has a lot of great moments even though it is different for them. So we shall see.

But I agree with your general point, I think they got better with each album with Spencer, and Define the Great Line, LITSOS, and Disambiguation are some of the best albums in the genre. I'm not expecting this to top any of those, so I've tempered my expectations a bit. Still enjoying the new stuff though.

You lads okay now? Everybody friends again? So we can all agree this new track is okay? Not trash but not amazing. But worth a few listens?

I see everyone shitting on it for being "sleepwave" but I don't see the negative in that. Post hardcore bands that don't mix up the formula will just be 2008-10 forever and be forgotten apart from the names everyone knows like ADTR,BMTH,TDWP etc etc.

Gotta have some variety sometimes and idk about everyone else but I can dig it. So far I'm kinda digging this more than the first single imo. But to each their own.

Yes we are okay, actually, we kissed and apologized in chat

I said earlier this is probably my favorite underoath song. But felt my opinion was invalid because I only just started listening to them

Ah yes. Another person who thinks any band that was metalcore or post hardcore that does a soft song is immediately BMTH, congratulations for being shallow

The fact we have to tell people it's called progression and trying something new after being a band for over a decade is rediculous, it's what burnt them out in the first place. Music is a creative outlet not a cookie cutter machine

Pretty underwhelming considering how much I liked On My Teeth but I still like it.

What's the point of Aaron being in this band if Spencer is going to do an entire song full of cleans ..  I mean he's a decent drummer but shit is lame AF.  Underoath is at their best when Spencer is chugging and Aaron is singing.

LOL so you didn't even listen to them before and think it's your place to tell people what opinion they're allowed to have on a band they most likely listened to for years? Here's a crazy concept, some people that were bigger fans of the old style aren't gonna like the new stuff as much. crazy huh? people can have different opinions on music, especially when they were big fans of a different style the band had. Just because it's your favorite song of a band you didn't listen to doesn't mean everyone has to enjoy it....

Dude, quit acting like such a self-righteous dickhead, he's a new fan he likes what he hears, allow him his pleasures, but the fact you're shitting on him for an opinion is rediculous. Like fucking hell even Aaron and Spencer have come out and said fuck it Underøath is what they say it is, so allow them to grow the fuck up, they're not teenagers anymore, they're nearly 40 so what more do you expect

It appears you're the asshole

Anyone who thinks a band that goes soft is automatically BMTH is shallow.

Nowhere did I force my fucking opinion so fuck off. Nor did I fucking say they had to enjoy the song

Just because I'm a new fan doesn't mean my opinion is irrelevant, you fucker

Liked the first single, this is pretty meh. But it's a radio single so I wasn't expecting it to be that heavy in the first place, I'm sure the album will have at least a few heavy bangers.

It's hard to judge a song without listening to the entire record as a whole sometimes and I feel that's the case here. I loved the first single, and this isn't too bad.

LOL except no one said "any band who goes soft is BMTH" you dumb kid looking for shit to argue about online. You don't even know what I think about BMTH or Underoath, all I mentioned was the same path as BMTH, as in "core" to mainstream rock and only mentioned BMTH because it's the biggest example of a band doing this type of change. You're the shallow asshole who's a noob fan and can't even comprehend what people are trying to say before attempting to insult them. "Durrrr he said something about a band I barely know online durrrr shallow" Grow up kid

I literally only said I'm not feeling this song before that douche insulted me and you think I'm shitting on someone for their opinion? Are you blind? I'm literally the one who gave an opinion that was shit on. I have no problem with mainstream rock anyway....Seriously what's wrong with you people? Everything you said in your post applied more to you and him than anyone else in this thread. YOU quit acting like a self righteous dickhead, I'm a long time fan but not feeling what I hear, allow me my opinions, but the fact that shithead shit on me for an opinion and you posted that toward me is "rediculous"

Not liking one song is not a fucking crime, comparing a band to another band isn't either. If you're gonna shit on every person who doesn't like a song you do that's a pretty sad life to live, and if you;re gonna post to someone at least read the whole convo before doing so...

As above, I'm not a huge UO fan but you nailed it. The first single had a really shallow chorus (but cool verses) and it took a lot out of the song for me. The songwriting is lazy at best and for such a huge name in the genre I expected more. If Spencer wasn't singing this would sound like any other metal core band.
