I couldn't tell you what makes this a great Tool album because while I do spin their albums on occasion and often end up very pleased with the experience (especially Lateralus) I am not some diehard fan, I will just say that starting with Descending there's not a dull moment here and the last ~45 minutes of this thing are fucking incredible and some of the best music I've heard recently. Can't wait to relisten and let this sink in even more, with interludes too.

An incredible, mind bending experience. Tool prove yet again why they are masters at crafting amazing albums that leave you fulfilled, yet wanting more. The wait was worth it.

So going off of first listen I thought this was good, really good actually but I wasn't really amazed by it. Maybe after some more listens and the interludes are released it may start to grow on me and I'll really get it but as of right now I'm not blown away but it's still pretty damn good.

That first play-through breezed by, felt like i just started the title track and then it was all over. What an incredible, unmistakably Tool experience and every track was incredible.

Danny Carey is an absolute monster throughout, Adam Jones has definitely honed his craft even further since 10,000 Days and has some amazing moments and solo parts, musically the entire band seem to have progressed since the last record, this album is just so tight musically. I adore 10,000 Days, but some people always thought Maynard was too pronounced on it, i don't really agree with that but he definitely weaves into the overall composition more seamlessly on FI which sounds phenomenal.

I'm never going to judge a Tool album on one listen, but i'd be hard-pushed to say this is any worse than their previous releases, and the overall composition of the tracks is a pretty noticeable step-up from previous releases. Descending is straight up fantastic on record, so much thought went into the production on this one and the song just soars when it really kicks off. Culling Voices is peak Maynard, it's deceptive in its build-up and is all-round amazing. 7empest is a disgustingly great song, and an amazing closer (interlude excluded) for a brilliant album. Pneuma and Invincible are seriously great too, but those three tracks stood out on my first listen. Pneuma's breakdown needs mentioned though, loved it. CCT was...interesting, great drumming but i think it will probably end up being a track i'll skip more often than not.

Incredible stuff. Worth the long-ass wait for sure.

I'm going to be playing this constantly for quite a while. Bring on some headline shows so i can see more of this played live than i got at Download Festival.
